I still haven't gone in an actual dumpster yet. I'm a little nervous. Hopefully I'll be able to talk to someone about diving tomorrow, and get a little gumption. I have picked up furniture from the street before, and an avocado from a parking lot.

Today I saw my roommate had thrown away yellow broccoli and two perfectly good potatoes. As they were exposed in the outdoor garbage can, I only reclaimed the potatoes. (and then hid them in my room so she wouldn't see! it's kind of awkward to untrash your roommate's food!)

I just moved near Strathfield, NSW. Any good dive sites around here? Also elsewhere, because I'm closer to sydney and there is transport, yay!

Hello, I have a question for you all. I just went diving for the first time last night (yay!), and it was awesome. I have tons of fruits and veggies now (yay!), which is also awesome. I'm super excited to eat them/make them into stuff, but I am curious first as to how all of you wash your fruits and veggies from the dumpster before eating. Do you just rinse them off with water? Or do you do something more than that? I would prefer to make something at home with things around the house rather than go out and buy something. Thanks! :)

so i went back.....

Success in Pittsburgh

Current Mood: full
So, my sis, who is visiting from Memphis, asked if there were any doughnut places around that we could dumpster from.
The only place that has doughnuts nearby is a gas station that sells Doughnut Connection.  We decided to suck it up and buy a few, but when we got there, we noticed that the doughnut delivery man was there!  We waited, and watched him (creepy, huh!), and right before he left, he hauled a huge lumpy bag to the dumpster.

Long story short:  I don't ever want to see another doughnut again for as long as I live.

52 doughnuts in all!

Looking for dumpster divers in or near Fresno, CA

Posted by [info]compostwormbin in [info]dumpsterdiving on 2008.08.04 at 22:33
Do any of you intrepid dumpster divers live in or near Fresno, CA (Madera, Clovis, etc.)? I want to dumpster dive but hubby hates it and I'm reluctant to go alone. Even if you're not looking for a DD buddy, any pointers or tips for good places to dive in this area or any issues/laws I should know about?

I know people dumpster dive here. I watched a guy do it midday behind a busy shopping center, filled up the back of his truck and off he went. It was cool to note that no one was weird to him and pretty much just let him do his thing.
